BIOGRAPHY

Sheikh Faruk Ahmed was born in Kushtia (Bangladesh) in 1995. He received his BS in Agriculture and MS in Crop Botany degrees from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Bangladesh, in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Currently he is nearing the end of his Ph.D. in Agricultural Systems and Engineering at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand; where he is working on Iron (Fe) toxicity tolerance in rice.

Apart from his present role as a doctoral student, Sheikh is working as "Postgraduate Research Assistant" in the Department of Food, Agriculture and Bioresources; School of Environment, Resources and Development; AIT, Bangkok, Thailand since November 2021. Under this role, his main focus is to assist in developing a Climate Smart Agricultural Model under the project entitled “Development of Specialized Expert System for Agrometeorological Early Warning for Climate Resilient Agriculture in Southeast Asia”. Before this he successfully completed another project entitled “Assessment on Agricultural Techniques and Technologies to Mitigate the Potential Negative Effects of Climate Change on Rice Production Systems in CLMV Countries” funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Prior to his Ph.D. research, Sheikh worked as a "Research Assistant" from June 2018 to May 2019 in the Department of Crop Botany, BSMRAU, Bangladesh; under the project titled "Screening of Wheat Genotypes Under Drought Stress" in parallel to his Masters degree.

 

Sheikh Faruk Ahmed has a keen research interest in the area of Plant Physiology, Plant Molecular Biology, Plant-environment Interaction ranging from Water Management to Nutrient Management and Biotechnology. He has collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines of agronomy, crop botany, stress physiology, genetics and plant breeding, agricultural water and nutrition management. Sheikh has published 1 research publications and book chapters in renowned international journals/publishers. He also received His Majesty King award during his Ph.D. in recognition of his outstanding performance.

Sheikh enjoy playing indoor games (chess, cards and pocket carrom), painting, watching movies, and crafting from recyclable waste. Due to his distinctive performance, he was awarded the best performer of co-curriculum activities during 2019.
